    Hardik

After India’s Super 8 win over Zimbabwe in Chennai, Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube chose improvement over celebration. Instead of resting, they returned to the field to practise their bowling. Their commitment ahead of the crucial clash against the West Indies impressed Sunil Gavaskar and Varun Aaron.

India dominated with the bat and scored 256/4 in 20 overs at Chepauk. However, the bowling unit struggled as Zimbabwe fought back through Brian Bennett to reach 184/6. Hardik conceded 21 runs in three overs without taking a wicket. Dube had an expensive spell, giving away 46 runs in two overs, including no-balls and wides.

Even after winning the Player of the Match award, Hardik admitted he was unhappy with his bowling. He wanted to stay ready for the next match. Soon after the win, both players resumed practice on the field with bowling coach Morne Morkel.

Gavaskar highlighted that while players usually unwind after matches, Hardik and Dube showed remarkable dedication by putting in extra effort to correct their mistakes. He described their refusal to become complacent as a positive sign for India’s campaign moving forward in the tournament.

Aaron echoed similar sentiments, noting that Hardik appeared disappointed with his bowling display. He added that practising immediately after a World Cup match — even after contributing significantly — reflects the strong determination within the Indian team to continue improving and aim for the title.
