Prices of premium petrol variants have risen by around ₹2 to ₹2.3 per litre, based on dealer inputs and media reports from select cities. The hike mainly affects high-octane fuels such as XP95 and Power petrol. Meanwhile, regular petrol and diesel prices remain unchanged. This selective increase targets a specific segment of fuel users. Oil companies appear to have taken a controlled pricing approach.

Dealers say the revised prices came into effect from March 20 across different locations. They also note that the exact increase varies slightly depending on the city. In some areas, prices have gone up by about ₹2.09 per litre. Such small differences usually occur due to local pricing factors. Overall, the hike stays within a narrow range.

Companies market high-octane fuels as premium options that improve engine performance. These fuels help deliver smoother driving and better efficiency. Many high-performance or premium vehicles use them. Their higher quality supports better combustion in engines. As a result, only a limited group of consumers prefers them.

Premium Fuel Prices Increased by ₹2/Litre; Regular Petrol and Diesel Unchanged

Regular petrol and diesel rates continue to remain stable despite the rise in premium fuel prices. Standard fuel prices have stayed unchanged for a long time. This trend continues even as global crude oil prices fluctuate. Oil companies seem to avoid a broader price revision. This approach helps reduce the impact on the general public.

Rising global crude oil costs have driven the increase in premium petrol prices. Supply concerns due to tensions in West Asia have also added pressure. India’s dependence on imported crude oil affects domestic fuel pricing. However, the overall impact remains limited. The hike mainly affects users of premium fuel variants.
