Raghav Chadha announced on Friday that he is leaving the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His decision came just days after a public dispute over his removal as deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha. This move has created fresh political tension within AAP.
At a press conference in Delhi, Chadha stood with Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal. He said that two-thirds of AAP’s Rajya Sabha MPs have decided to merge with the BJP using constitutional provisions. He called it a collective decision after serious disagreements inside the party.
Chadha also confirmed that Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal are leaving AAP and joining the BJP. Their exit is a major setback for Arvind Kejriwal’s party. It could weaken AAP’s strength in the Rajya Sabha.

While explaining his decision, Chadha said he gave 15 years of his life to AAP. He said the party had moved away from its original values and principles. According to him, AAP now focuses more on personal and political interests than national welfare.
He added that for the past few years, he felt like “the right person in the wrong party.” He believed it was the right time to leave AAP and reconnect with the public. His exit is one of the biggest internal breaks in the party’s recent history.
