A scooter explosion near the Border Security Force (BSF) headquarters in Jalandhar created panic on Tuesday evening. The blast happened near a high-security zone in Punjab, raising serious concerns among security agencies and local authorities. Officials quickly reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident.
According to police, a parked Activa scooter suddenly caught fire and exploded outside the BSF premises. Eyewitnesses said they heard a loud blast followed by flames rising from the vehicle. The explosion sound reportedly travelled nearly one kilometre and frightened nearby residents and pedestrians.
Police teams and fire brigade officials arrived at the location within minutes. Firefighters controlled the blaze before it spread to nearby areas. Authorities confirmed that no injuries or casualties occurred during the incident. Officials also secured the surrounding area to prevent further risk.
Initial reports suggested that the scooter belonged to a food delivery worker. He had reportedly entered the BSF premises to complete a routine delivery. Moments after returning, the scooter exploded. Police later took the owner, identified as Gurpreet Singh, into custody for questioning. His family claimed he had no criminal background and was only doing his regular work.

Jalandhar Police Intensify Investigation
Senior police officers stated that investigators are examining every possible angle related to the blast. Teams are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas to understand how the incident occurred. Officials are checking whether the explosion happened because of a technical fault or any outside interference.
Fire officials said the flames were unusually strong and required several water units to fully control the fire. Following the incident, security near the BSF headquarters in Jalandhar increased significantly. Authorities deployed additional personnel around the area as a precautionary measure.
Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur confirmed that the investigation remains active. She stated that police are carefully examining all evidence linked to the scooter blast. Officials are also questioning the scooter owner as part of the inquiry.
The incident has also sparked political reactions in Punjab. Opposition parties questioned the state’s law and order situation after the blast near the sensitive BSF location. Meanwhile, authorities continue their investigation to identify the exact cause behind the explosion in Jalandhar.
