Congress leader Rahul Gandhi renewed his “compromised PM” attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said the Prime Minister was no longer capable of running the country.
His remarks came after Modi urged citizens to adopt lifestyle changes amid the ongoing US-Iran war. For instance, the Prime Minister asked people to work from home and avoid buying gold for a year.
Speaking in Hyderabad on Sunday, Modi inaugurated multiple projects. He also appealed to people to reduce fuel consumption and use public transport. In addition, he urged citizens to limit the use of cooking oil and fertilizers and avoid unnecessary foreign travel.
According to Modi, these steps could help India handle the economic strain caused by the conflict in West Asia. The war began on February 28 and disrupted global energy supplies despite a temporary ceasefire.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi accused the government of shifting responsibility onto the public instead of accepting accountability.
In a post on X, Gandhi called Modi’s appeals “proofs of failure”. He further claimed the government was telling citizens what to buy, where to travel, and how to live.

Congress leaders stepped up their attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his appeals for lifestyle changes amid the US-Iran war. They accused the government of failing to secure the country’s energy needs.
Senior Congress leader KC Venugopal claimed Modi was “clueless about ensuring India’s energy security” even weeks after the conflict began. He criticised the Prime Minister for asking citizens to bear the burden of the crisis instead of preparing safeguards for the economy.
Venugopal called Modi’s appeals “shameless, reckless and downright immoral”. He accused the government of pushing common people into inconvenience instead of building contingencies to protect the country from the global crisis.
He also urged the Centre to maintain enough fuel reserves so citizens do not face hardship.
Congress MP Karti P Chidambaram also questioned Modi’s appeals. He described them as serious “directives” and asked what had triggered them.
Chidambaram demanded an immediate Parliament session to discuss the issue. He also urged the government to take the nation into confidence and explain the “true state of affairs” behind the appeals.
