Vijay had returned from Malaysia after attending the audio launch of his upcoming film Jana Nayagan. The event reportedly attracted nearly one lakh fans and entered the Malaysian Book of Records for recording the largest audience at an audio launch. Malaysia is home to one of the largest Tamil populations outside India.
Speaking at the event, Vijay reiterated his decision to step away from cinema to focus on public life, saying he was giving up films to stand up for his fans. He also reaffirmed his political ambitions, positioning TVK as an alternative force in Tamil Nadu politics ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
