The plane crash that killed Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has triggered several questions, including speculation about whether the incident was an accident or sabotage. Ajit Pawar spoke to his cousin and party associate Shrijit Pawar shortly before the aircraft crashed at Baramati airport on January 28, 2026. During a press briefing, Shrijit revealed that he had messaged Pawar regarding representation of the Mali community in district council elections. Responding to the message, Pawar called him directly from the aircraft to discuss the concern.
During the discussion, the veteran leader highlighted his commitment to inclusive governance and stated that his party works to represent all castes and communities. Shrijit said Pawar always ensured balanced representation and remained easily accessible to party members and supporters. He described this message of unity as the leader’s final public sentiment.

The senior politician was travelling from Mumbai to Baramati for election campaigning when the accident occurred. Officials said the pilot faced difficulties during the first landing attempt. While trying to land again, the aircraft reportedly lost control, veered off the runway, and crashed near the airstrip, killing Pawar and five others. Authorities are continuing their probe into the cause of the crash.
