India is hosting the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, bringing together world leaders, policymakers, technology firms, startups, and researchers to discuss how artificial intelligence can be developed responsibly and used for real social and economic benefit. The event, one of the largest AI gatherings led by a Global South country, reflects India’s growing ambition to influence global AI policy while expanding its domestic technological strength.
Under the government’s IndiaAI Mission, officials have allocated ₹10,372 crore to build a strong national AI ecosystem. The programme has already enabled shared access to more than 38,000 GPUs, supported the creation of 12 indigenous foundation models, and approved over 30 AI solutions tailored to India’s needs. Talent development is another key priority, with thousands of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students receiving funding, training, and research support to strengthen the future AI workforce.
The summit has drawn participation from over 45 countries, including leaders such as Emmanuel Macron, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and António Guterres. Major global companies like Microsoft, IBM, Zoom, Kyndryl, and Adobe are also participating, highlighting expanding international collaboration in AI innovation and governance.
Key discussions focus on narrowing the AI adoption gap between developed and developing nations, building trusted and sovereign digital systems, promoting ethical regulation, and ensuring AI strengthens livelihoods instead of replacing them. Alongside the summit, the AI Impact Expo showcases practical AI applications in agriculture, healthcare, education, and public services.
