In a major post-election development in Maharashtra, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has extended support to the Shiv Sena in the Kalyan–Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC). The move marks a shift, as the two parties have long remained political rivals. Former MNS MLA Pramod (Raju) Patil announced the decision on behalf of the party’s five corporators.

Earlier in the day, all 53 Shiv Sena corporators visited the Konkan Divisional Commissioner’s office in Navi Mumbai to register their group formally. At the same venue, the five MNS corporators completed the required procedures. They then publicly declared their support for the Shiv Sena, reshaping the civic body’s power dynamics.

In the 122-member KDMC elections, the Shiv Sena emerged as the single largest party with 53 seats. The BJP followed closely with 50 councillors. Shiv Sena (UBT) won 11 seats, while MNS secured five. Congress won two seats, and NCP (SP) managed one.

Post-poll backing by MNS boosts Shinde-led Shiv Sena’s prospects in the Kalyan–Dombivli Municipal Corporation.

Kalyan Lok Sabha MP Shrikant Shinde confirmed the development and said the MNS made the decision with the city’s development in mind. He stated that the Shiv Sena and BJP had contested the elections together under the Mahayuti alliance. He also said the mayor would come from the alliance, with leaders to take a final call later.

Sources said the KDMC requires at least 62 seats to form the civic body. With 53 Shiv Sena corporators and five from the MNS, the count has reached 58. Sources also claimed that some corporators from the Shiv Sena (UBT) faction remain in touch with the Shinde-led camp, as talks over the mayor’s term continue.
