Officials found Rs 5 crore in cash and 1.5 kilograms of jewellery. They also seized 22 luxury watches and keys to high-end cars like Audi and Mercedes. CBI Seizes Cash and Luxury Items in DIG Bhullar’s Bribery Case
The CBI statement revealed that Rs 21 lakh in cash was seized from the middleman involved in the bribery scheme. Both the DIG and the middleman will be produced in court on Friday for further legal proceedings. The investigation and searches are still ongoing to uncover more evidence and accomplices. The joint operation was carried out by CBI teams from Delhi and Chandigarh. CBI successfully laid a trap to catch the middleman red-handed while demanding Rs 8 lakh from the complainant. The payment was demanded on behalf of DIG Bhullar at Sector 21, Chandigarh, officials confirmed. The complainant cooperated fully with the agency and provided crucial information that helped the arrest. The sting operation was conducted carefully to avoid alerting the accused.
A controlled call between the complainant and DIG Bhullar was recorded by the CBI during the operation. In the call, Bhullar acknowledged the payment demand and instructed the middleman and complainant to meet him at his office. This evidence formed the basis for immediate arrest by the CBI team at the office location. The complainant is a businessman residing in Mandi Gobindgarh and was involved in a theft case of iron and steel products. Bhullar allegedly offered to “settle” the FIR and promised no further police action against the complainant’s business. The case involves allegations of monthly illegal gratification and bribe demands to protect the complainant’s business interests. The CBI is continuing its probe to expose the full extent of the corrupt network.

Controlled Call Leads to Arrest of DIG Bhullar and Middleman
Harcharan Singh Bhullar is a 2009-batch IPS officer with prior service as SSP Mohali and DIG Patiala Range. He took charge as DIG Ropar Range on November 27, 2024. Bhullar also headed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that interrogated senior Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia during a high-profile drug smuggling case. His arrest on bribery charges has shocked the police department and raised questions about corruption within the ranks. The case highlights how high-ranking officers misuse power for personal gain despite previous respected roles. Authorities emphasize the need to uphold integrity in law enforcement agencies. The CBI is committed to ensuring justice and cracking down on corrupt practices at all levels.
The CBI registered the bribery case on October 16, 2025, based on the iron merchant’s complaint against Bhullar and his associate. The complaint alleges Bhullar demanded Rs 8 lakh as an initial bribe and monthly payments through the middleman. The bribes were sought to “settle” an FIR registered against the complainant and to prevent adverse police actions. The investigation is probing how the accused allegedly pressured business owners using police authority. CBI officials confirm the agency is intensively questioning suspects and gathering evidence. Legal action will continue as the court processes the accused following their presentation. The arrest sends a strong message against corruption within the police force and reinforces accountability.
