The Kerala High Court has ordered a vigilance investigation into the shortage of 4.54 kg of gold from the Dwarapalaka idols at Sabarimala. The judges highlighted the unexplained reduction in weight during the 2019 re-plating process and instructed the Travancore Devaswom Board to extend full cooperation with the inquiry.

The Kerala High Court bench of Justices Raja Vijayaraghavan V and K.V. Jayakumar raised alarm over a gold shortage linked to Sabarimala’s Dwarapalaka idols The court noted that the plates removed in 2019 for fresh plating weighed 42.8 kg, but officials handed only 38.258 kg to the Chennai-based firm assigned the work, revealing a shortfall of about 4.54 kg of gold.

Directing the Travancore Devaswom Board to fully cooperate, the bench ordered a vigilance probe to uncover how the shortfall occurred. The court observed that only a thorough inquiry could reveal whether negligence, mismanagement, or deliberate malpractice was involved. The investigation aims to fix responsibility and restore public faith in temple administration.
