Rahul Gandhi appealed to India’s Gen Z, promising to help prevent “vote chori” (electoral fraud). The BJP strongly criticized him, with former Union Minister Anurag Thakur accusing Gandhi of “attempting to create Bangladesh or Nepal-style unrest in India” and “misleading the youth.

Engagement with Gen Z Predates Nepal Protests
However, as far back as May 2023, during his visit to the postgraduate men’s hostel at the University of Delhi for an informal lunch interaction, he had referred to the session with students as a “Gup-Shup over Lunch with the Gen Z.” Here, “Gup-Shup” is a Hindi term meaning casual chit-chat, highlighting Gandhi’s earlier engagement with young students and his effort to connect with India’s digitally active youth in a relaxed, conversational setting.
