Seven Indian Army soldiers were injured during a gunbattle with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Tuesday. The encounter took place in the Chatroo area during a search operation by security forces. Troops established contact with terrorists hiding in a forested region and came under heavy fire. Security forces retaliated immediately. The Jammu-based White Knight Corps launched Operation Trashi-I around noon. The Army carried out the operation jointly with the Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Sonnar area, northeast of Chatroo.

Soldiers Cordon Tightened, Operation Ongoing
Officials said a search team encountered two to three foreign terrorists believed to be linked to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). The terrorists opened indiscriminate fire and hurled grenades to escape. Security forces rushed reinforcements and tightened the cordon. Authorities evacuated the injured soldiers to a nearby hospital, where doctors said their condition is stable. The Army said the operation is still underway. Security agencies have deployed drones and sniffer dogs to track the terrorists. This was the third terror encounter in the Jammu region this year. Officials said forces have stepped up counter-terror operations ahead of Republic Day following intelligence inputs on renewed infiltration attempts.
