A group of people allegedly attacked Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) workers in Rohini during a dog-catching operation. They assaulted the staff, released two stray dogs, and vandalised the MCD vehicle. Police filed an FIR at the K N Katju Marg station and identified one main suspect. This incident marks the fifth such attack since the Supreme Court ordered the relocation of stray dogs to shelters.
The MCD team had responded to a complaint from a school in Sector 16, Rohini. After catching a stray dog there, they moved to Sector 3 to address another complaint. However, a group of dog lovers allegedly confronted the team, assaulted them, and forced them to release the caught dogs. The mob smashed the van’s glass, stole equipment, and fled before police arrived.

Police used CCTV footage to identify and arrest a man linked to the WhatsApp group.Two other women were recognised, and police teams are trying to trace remaining suspects.Relevant charges include assault, theft, and obstructing public servants from discharging official duties.
BJP leader Vijay Goel also filed a complaint about MCD workers being manhandled.Animal care workers expressed concern over safety due to rising violence against dog-catching staff.Neighbourhood Woof’s staff stopped catching dogs after the Supreme Court’s relocation directive last week.
Animal shelters are now overcrowded and have stopped accepting new dogs due to lack of space.NGOs running sterilisation programmes report funding issues and inability to release already vaccinated dogs. Shelter staff say confined dogs are fighting due to stress, and daily care has become difficult.
