An Etihad Airways flight scheduled to depart from Chennai to Abu Dhabi was cancelled on Tuesday after engineers detected a hydraulic leak in the aircraft. The Airbus A320, carrying nearly 280 passengers, was preparing for take-off when the technical issue was identified during routine checks. Engineering teams later declared the aircraft unfit for operation and issued an “Aircraft on Ground” (AOG) status. Airport authorities immediately halted the departure process to ensure passenger safety and prevent any operational risk. After detecting the fault, ground staff safely deboarded all passengers and towed the aircraft back to the parking stand.

Chennai Airport: Engineers Declared Aircraft Unsafe After Technical Inspection

Airline officials informed travellers about the cancellation and began arranging assistance, including rebooking and baggage support. Passengers experienced delays and inconvenience, but authorities confirmed that everyone remained safe throughout the incident. Airport operations continued normally after officials completed the required safety procedures. Earlier reports had claimed that a fire broke out near the aircraft’s left wing before departure. However, aviation authorities later dismissed those reports and clarified that no fire incident occurred.

Officials confirmed that the aircraft only suffered a hydraulic leakage and never faced any in-flight emergency or diversion situation. They urged media platforms to avoid spreading unverified information that could create unnecessary panic among passengers and families. Aviation experts stated that hydraulic systems control critical aircraft functions such as braking, steering, and landing gear operations. Any issue involving these systems requires immediate inspection and grounding of the aircraft. Authorities praised the engineering team for identifying the fault before take-off and preventing a potentially larger operational risk. The incident once again highlighted the importance of strict aviation safety checks and preventive maintenance procedures in commercial airline operations.
