Escalating tensions in West Asia have pushed global fuel prices higher and raised import costs for countries like Nepal, which relies entirely on imported petroleum products. As a result, the Nepal Oil Corporation imports fuel from Indian Oil Corporation under a long-term supply agreement. Meanwhile, the Indian supplier regularly updates its price lists to reflect fluctuations in international oil markets. Consequently, NOC periodically reviews domestic fuel prices and adjusts them to keep them aligned with global market trends.
Against this backdrop, the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), the state-run fuel supplier, raised petroleum prices by up to 15 rupees per litre as tensions in West Asia entered their third week. According to officials, rising global crude oil prices—driven by growing geopolitical uncertainty in the region that supplies a significant share of the world’s oil—prompted the price revision.

West Asia Tensions Shake Global Oil Markets
Therefore, authorities introduced the adjustment to manage increasing import costs and ensure stable fuel supplies across Nepal. In addition, officials said the measure was necessary to maintain the financial balance of the Nepal Oil Corporation while responding to changes in the global energy market. Furthermore, authorities noted that regular price adjustments help the state-run supplier cope with fluctuations in international crude oil prices and avoid significant financial losses.
As a result, the hike is likely to increase transportation expenses and could push up the prices of essential goods in Nepal. Moreover, economists warn that higher fuel costs may add pressure on inflation in the coming weeks, affecting household budgets and overall consumer spending. Consequently, analysts say the price increase could also influence logistics and supply chain costs, which may gradually reflect in the retail prices of food and other daily necessities.
