Commercial LPG supply disruptions have begun to affect Mumbai’s hospitality sector, forcing many hotels and restaurants to shut down operations. According to the Hotel And Restaurant Association (AHAR), around 20% of hotels and eateries in the city have already closed because they do not have enough cooking gas to continue their services.

The association said the situation could worsen quickly if authorities and suppliers fail to restore regular LPG deliveries. AHAR warned that nearly half of Mumbai’s hotels and restaurants might be forced to shut down within the next two days if the supply problem continues. Many restaurant owners depend heavily on commercial LPG for daily cooking, and any disruption in supply directly affects their ability to operate.

AHAR officials explained that the number of establishments that remain open will largely depend on the amount of LPG stock available with individual restaurants. Some hotels still have limited reserves of cooking gas, which allows them to continue operations for a short time. However, once those stocks run out, they may also have to suspend services until the supply chain improves.

The association highlighted that the crisis has created uncertainty for hotel owners and workers in the hospitality sector. If the shortage continues for several more days, it could affect thousands of employees who depend on these establishments for their livelihoods.

At the same time, AHAR clarified that it has not issued any collective directive to shut down hotels or restaurants across the city. Instead, individual hotel and restaurant owners will decide whether to keep their establishments open or temporarily close them based on their available LPG stock and operational capacity.

Industry representatives have urged authorities and gas suppliers to address the supply disruption quickly to prevent further closures in Mumbai’s large and busy food and hospitality sector.

LPG Supply Crisis Disrupts Restaurant Operations

A sudden shortage of commercial LPG cylinders has affected many restaurants and eateries in Mumbai. Most kitchens depend on LPG for daily cooking. Because of the supply problem, several restaurants have reduced menu items. Some have also limited their services.

Restaurant owners say the shortage has already started affecting daily operations. If the supply does not improve soon, more eateries may face problems.

Industry groups say the shortage could affect thousands of restaurants if it continues. Many businesses rely on regular LPG deliveries to keep their kitchens running.
