The National Testing Agency (NTA) issued a clarification after a NEET UG 2026 candidate from Nagpur received an examination centre in Abu Dhabi for the re-examination scheduled on June 21. The allotment sparked controversy and prompted questions about the centre selection process. NTA stated that the candidate personally changed his examination city preferences through the official portal.

NEET Centre Row: NTA Says Nagpur Student Chose Abu Dhabi as First Preference
A senior NTA official said the candidate changed his preferences on May 21. He selected Abu Dhabi as his first choice and Dubai as his second choice for the examination centre. The agency said its records clearly show these changes. Officials added that the candidate used his own login credentials to update the information on the portal.
The candidate’s father, Abdulla Talib, claimed that his son originally selected Nagpur, Wardha, and Bhandara as preferred examination centres. He expressed surprise after the authorities assigned an overseas centre. However, NTA insisted that the candidate later revised his preferences and selected the international locations through the online system.

NTA Rejects Exam Centre Claim, Says Candidate Selected Overseas Location Himself
NTA said a Nagpur-based IP address handled several examination-related activities linked to the candidate’s account. According to officials, the candidate used the same IP address to change city preferences, access examination documents, and download his admit card. The agency cited these records to support its explanation of the centre allotment.
The agency also said the candidate updated his bank details for a refund through the same IP address. NTA records show that the candidate selected Abu Dhabi as his examination centre on three separate occasions. Officials further noted that he viewed the centre details twice before the system finalized the allotment. This sequence of actions, according to NTA, confirms that the candidate himself chose the overseas examination centre.
