Air India on Friday cancelled eight flights across international and domestic routes due to enhanced aircraft safety inspections, poor weather conditions, and ongoing airspace restrictions. The decision follows the recent crash of flight AI171 in Ahmedabad, which claimed 297 lives, including 241 onboard. Only one person survived the tragic incident, prompting the Tata Group-owned airline to increase maintenance protocols across its fleet.
The cancelled international flights include AI906 from Dubai to Chennai, AI308 from Delhi to Melbourne, AI309 from Melbourne to Delhi, and AI2204 from Dubai to Hyderabad. Domestic routes affected are AI874 from Pune to Delhi, AI456 from Ahmedabad to Delhi, AI2872 from Hyderabad to Mumbai, and AI571 from Chennai to Mumbai.
In an official statement, Air India confirmed the cancellations and cited operational and maintenance reasons. The airline assured affected passengers full refunds or complimentary rescheduling and emphasized its commitment to assisting travelers with alternative arrangements. “We regret the inconvenience caused and are working to help passengers reach their destinations as soon as possible,” the airline said.
