A suspected rocket attack in Manipur’s Moirang area tragically killed two young children and injured their mother while they were asleep at home. The incident occurred in a sensitive region already affected by ethnic tensions, further deepening fear and instability among residents.

In response, the state government suspended mobile internet services for three days across five districts—Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur. Authorities said the shutdown was necessary to prevent the spread of rumours and misinformation that could worsen the situation.

A strict curfew was also imposed in Bishnupur district, where the attack took place shortly after midnight. Officials emphasized that these measures were taken in the interest of maintaining public order and preventing further unrest.

The attack triggered widespread protests and violence in the area. Angry locals set vehicles on fire, damaged public property, and clashed with security forces. In some areas, large crowds gathered and even attempted to breach security camps, prompting heavy deployment of forces to restore control.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh strongly condemned the attack, calling it an act of terror and assuring strict action against those responsible. The incident has disrupted the fragile peace in the region and reignited tensions between communities, raising concerns about further escalation.
