    Manish Tewari

In a post on X, Manish Tewari recalled Prime Minister Modi’s visit to inaugurate the Dr. Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in New Chandigarh in August 2022. As the Member of Parliament from Sri Anandpur Sahib, he welcomed the Prime Minister during the event. Tewari said the hospital has become a lifeline for thousands of cancer patients. He maintained that public welfare projects should always take precedence over political differences. He added that development must remain the priority for every elected representative.

Calls for Political Decency and Protocol

Tewari said Indian politics has become increasingly bitter over the past several decades. He noted that political rivals are often treated as enemies instead of opponents. Despite this, he said he continues to believe in basic courtesies and democratic traditions. He stressed that respecting protocol and maintaining civility are essential in public life. According to him, development should never become a casualty of political rivalry.

The clarification comes at a time when the Punjab Congress is witnessing growing internal discord ahead of the Assembly elections. Several senior leaders have raised objections over the party’s election committee. Former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and his supporters have demanded the removal of state Congress chief Amrinder Raja Warring. Tewari has also stated that he has not been assigned any election-related responsibility. These developments have intensified discussions about the party’s internal unity.

Rumours End, But Party Crisis Continues

Tewari’s statement has largely put to rest speculation about his possible move to the BJP. However, the internal issues within the Punjab Congress remain unresolved. The Congress MP recently attended the party’s high-level meeting ahead of the Monsoon Session, which was viewed as an effort to bridge differences among senior leaders. The party leadership is yet to address the ongoing factionalism. Political observers will now watch closely to see how the Congress resolves its leadership challenges before the elections.
