The Central Government has officially revealed the names of six Indian armed forces personnel who lost their lives during Operation Sindoor, more than a year after the military mission targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). By releasing their identities, the government has formally acknowledged the military casualties suffered during the operation for the first time. Authorities have added the names of the six personnel to the Roll of Honour at the National War Memorial in New Delhi. Officials have also engraved their names on the memorial’s Wall of Honour to permanently recognise their sacrifice.
Centre Honours Six Operation Sindoor Martyrs
The government honoured Subedar Major Pawan Kumar of Headquarters 10 Infantry Brigade, Rifleman Sunil Kumar (Vir Chakra) of the 4 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar of the 5 Field Regiment, Aviation Technician Mood Muralinaik of the 851 Light Regiment, Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh of the 237 Field Workshop Company, and Sergeant Surendra Kumar (Vayu Medal) of the 39 Wing. Authorities awarded Rifleman Sunil Kumar the Vir Chakra posthumously for his gallantry. Sergeant Surendra Kumar had already received the Vayu Medal for his distinguished service. Their recognition highlights the bravery and dedication they displayed during the mission.
The government had not publicly confirmed the identities of the personnel who died during Operation Sindoor until now, despite speculation following the India-Pakistan conflict in May 2025. By adding their names to the National War Memorial, the Centre has officially recognised their sacrifice. This step ensures that the nation records their service in its military history. The memorial now stands as a permanent tribute to their courage and commitment to duty.

Centre officially recognises six Operation Sindoor martyrs at National War Memorial
The Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor in May 2025 after terrorists killed 26 tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam district. During the operation, Indian forces carried out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK. According to official statements, the forces eliminated more than 100 terrorists, destroyed several terror launchpads linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen, and damaged Pakistani air defence systems along with a significant portion of its air assets. The operation formed a key part of India’s response to cross-border terrorism.
The government has now paid tribute to the six personnel by including their names in the National War Memorial’s Roll of Honour. Through this recognition, authorities have acknowledged their courage and supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. Officials stated that preserving the names of these soldiers at the memorial will inspire future generations and honour their contribution to the nation’s security. The tribute reinforces the country’s commitment to remembering those who gave their lives in service of India.
