    Dhoni

MS Dhoni may return to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) playing XI later this week if his recovery stays on track. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter has been out with a calf strain. The team had already ruled him out for the first two weeks of IPL 2026 to complete his rehabilitation.

CSK have endured a poor start to the season. They lost their first three matches to Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The five-time champions now sit at the bottom of the points table. Dhoni’s absence has clearly affected both leadership and overall performance.

The team now hopes Dhoni will play in the upcoming match against Delhi Capitals on April 11 in Chennai. He is likely to take a fitness test in the next two to three days. If he clears it, he could return to the playing XI.

In his absence, Ruturaj Gaikwad has struggled to lead the side effectively. His batting form has also raised concerns. Sanju Samson has failed to make an impact so far. The opening pair has not delivered, adding to CSK’s problems. Injuries to players like Dewald Brevis have made things worse.

However, there is still optimism in the camp. Dhoni has resumed training and looks close to full fitness. The management remains cautious but hopeful. His return could lift the team’s morale and improve their chances. It may also ease ongoing speculation about his future in the IPL.
