Afghanistan reported a devastating airstrike on a drug rehabilitation hospital in Kabul on Monday night. Authorities confirmed that the attack killed around 400 people and injured nearly 250 others. Most victims were patients who were receiving treatment inside the facility at the time of the strike. Officials described the incident as one of the deadliest attacks in recent history, highlighting the scale of destruction and the high number of civilian casualties.

Afghanistan’s deputy spokesperson Hamdullah Fitrat stated that the airstrike directly targeted the Omar Addiction Treatment Hospital in Kabul. The attack took place at around 9 PM local time, catching many patients and staff off guard. The explosion destroyed large sections of the 2,000-bed hospital, reducing parts of the building to rubble. Rescue teams rushed to the site and continued searching for survivors, while emergency workers tried to pull bodies from the debris.

Officials called the attack a serious violation of international laws and humanitarian principles. Fitrat shared visuals from the site, showing extensive destruction and casualties caused by the strike. He described the hospital as a place meant for healing that had turned into a scene of tragedy and loss.

Pakistan has not officially accepted responsibility for the strike, and no formal confirmation has been issued so far. Despite this, tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan have increased sharply following the incident. International observers have called for an independent investigation into the incident and urged both nations to show restraint.
