Meta has launched another major round of layoffs affecting nearly 8,000 employees worldwide as part of its restructuring and AI-focused strategy. The company expects engineering and product teams to face the biggest impact, and reports suggest more job cuts could follow later this year. Employees in Singapore reportedly received notices as early as 4 am, while the company informed staff in Europe and the US in phases. The layoffs have raised fresh concerns about job security at the tech giant.
Amid the layoffs, a viral post on workplace forum Blind gained attention after an employee who survived the cuts expressed guilt over a teammate losing her job. The employee urged people not to label laid-off workers as poor performers and described the colleague as hardworking, humble and dependable. According to the post, the teammate worked under intense pressure on a major project and often slept less than four hours for months. The employee claimed the workload affected her health before the company suddenly laid her off, triggering emotional reactions online.

Meta Cuts Spark Online Debate
The employee also said the colleague maintained a strong performance record, handled key projects and never received any warnings, making the decision difficult to understand. In the post, the worker recalled seeing the teammate working late at night and early in the morning for months. The employee asked people not to judge those affected by the layoffs, saying many talented workers lost their jobs despite their dedication. Several users online agreed and called the layoffs “random,” adding that top-performing employees also lost their positions.
The viral post prompted widespread reactions online, with many users arguing that companies often make layoff decisions based on restructuring and budget priorities rather than employee performance. Several commenters expressed sympathy for the laid-off worker and called the situation heartbreaking. Others said the incident showed why employees should avoid sacrificing their health and personal lives for companies that can still let them go unexpectedly.
