    Mira Road

Residents of Poonam Estate Cluster 1 in Mira Road remain worried after communal tension erupted outside the housing complex ahead of Bakrid celebrations. The incident created panic among families and forced many residents to stay indoors for safety. Police teams continued to monitor the area to prevent further clashes and maintain order near the society gates. Residents said the society has always maintained communal harmony and celebrated festivals together without conflict. The controversy began after some residents raised objections to temporary goat sheds inside the premises due to hygiene and noise concerns. Civic officials later removed the structures after inspecting the area for alleged rule violations. Many residents now fear that the incident has damaged the peaceful image of the housing society. Families also expressed concern about the impact of the tension on children and senior citizens living in the complex.

Residents Express Concern Over Hygiene and Safety

Several residents said they had complained about foul smell, noise, and cleanliness issues linked to temporary goat shelters during Bakrid preparations. Families living near the parking area claimed the smell continued throughout the day and disturbed daily activities inside nearby flats. Residents also said they worried about hygiene because children regularly use the common areas for playing and walking. Many people approached local authorities and requested quick action to avoid further disagreement between residents. Society members added that they wanted a peaceful solution and did not support any form of communal conflict inside the residential complex.

Residents also praised police officers for responding quickly after tensions increased outside the society premises. Police restricted outsider entry and increased security around the housing complex to stop the situation from worsening. Many families stayed indoors during the night because they feared fresh clashes in the surrounding area. Residents stated that people from different communities have lived together peacefully in the society for years and regularly participate in each other’s festivals. They also said the recent incident should not define the image of the entire community because most families inside the society supported peace and cooperation.

Society Members Appeal for Unity and Peace

Members of the housing society said they want both communities to maintain peace and avoid spreading rumours related to the incident. Several residents explained that the issue mainly involved complaints regarding temporary arrangements and not religious celebrations themselves. Community volunteers held meetings with residents and assured them that they would maintain cleanliness and reduce inconvenience during festival preparations. Society members said these discussions helped lower tension inside the residential complex before the situation escalated outside the gates.

Residents further stated that Poonam Estate has always celebrated Hindu and Muslim festivals together with mutual respect and participation. Families often join each other during Ganeshोत्सव, Diwali, Eid, and other community events organised inside the society. Many residents now worry that the recent Mira Road communal tension may create misunderstanding among outsiders about the atmosphere inside the complex. They urged authorities and local leaders to avoid politicising the matter and instead focus on restoring trust and normalcy among residents.

Lack of Clear Guidelines Creates Confusion

Residents and committee members said unclear rules regarding temporary festival arrangements created confusion for everyone involved in the dispute. Some residents claimed authorities failed to provide proper guidance on whether housing societies could allow temporary animal shelters during Bakrid celebrations. This uncertainty reportedly led to arguments between residents and increased tension within the community. Society officials said they often face criticism whether they approve or reject such requests because no fixed policy exists for residential complexes.

Committee members also said better coordination between civic authorities and police could help prevent similar disputes in the future. Residents believe clear instructions about hygiene standards, safety measures, and permitted festival arrangements would reduce confusion and stop unnecessary arguments. Families living in the society now hope the administration will take steps to rebuild confidence among residents and maintain communal harmony in the area. Many people also appealed to local authorities to ensure peace so children, women, and senior citizens can feel safe again inside the housing complex.
