Activist Sonam Wangchuk continued his indefinite hunger strike at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar as the protest entered its tenth day on Tuesday. However, social media users shifted attention toward Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke after videos showed him eating kachori, bread pakodas, and noodles near the protest venue. The clips quickly went viral, prompting many people to question why Wangchuk remained on a fast while other organisers continued eating. The controversy soon overshadowed the protest’s demands regarding alleged examination paper leaks and education reforms.

Dipke Says Viral Food Videos Were Shared Without Context
Abhijeet Dipke responded to the criticism during an interaction with Delhi Tak and rejected the allegations. He said people circulated the videos without proper context because the footage was recorded before Sonam Wangchuk joined the hunger strike. Dipke explained that Wangchuk returned from a climate summit in Europe several days after the protest had already begun. He accused critics of diverting attention from the movement’s primary demands by focusing on misleading social media content.
Dipke said Wangchuk personally instructed the core organising team not to participate in the indefinite hunger strike. He explained that organisers needed to remain physically fit to manage crowds, coordinate volunteers, and communicate with police officials throughout the demonstrations. Dipke also said Wangchuk had experience with extended fasting, while he suffered from migraines that made prolonged fasting difficult. He maintained that every organiser contributed to the protest in different but equally important ways.
CJP Defends Protest Strategy as Wangchuk Continues Indefinite Fast
Dipke also expressed concern about Wangchuk’s health and revealed that he had requested the activist to end the hunger strike. According to Dipke, Wangchuk refused and insisted that he would continue fasting until the government acted against Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The CJP claimed that Wangchuk had already lost weight during the fast, increasing concerns about his health. Despite these challenges, the organisers continued the protest at Jantar Mantar.
The Cockroach Janta Party launched the protest over alleged examination paper leaks and unemployment issues affecting students across the country. The movement attracted thousands of students and received support from several opposition leaders. Although the demonstrations continued peacefully, the Central Government did not respond to the group’s key demands. Meanwhile, the viral videos involving Dipke created fresh political debate and kept both the protest and Wangchuk’s hunger strike in the national spotlight.
