Kolkata’s Surendranath College landed in controversy after authorities recovered nearly Rs 1 crore from a locked union room. College staff members claimed politically influential leaders controlled union rooms and intimidated employees refusing to follow their instructions. Reports suggested student leaders continued operating campuses despite student elections remaining suspended since 2019 across Bengal institutions. Several officials also alleged that union rooms functioned like private offices under political influence for several years. The controversy exposed growing concerns regarding political interference and weak administrative control within educational institutions across the state.
