SIR: Door-to-Door Verification and Census Coordination

The SIR exercise has been aligned with Census operations to ensure smooth use of administrative resources. Booth Level Officers will visit households to verify voter details and correct discrepancies. The Election Commission said this coordination will help avoid duplication of field work. It will also improve accuracy in voter data collection. The focus remains on creating a clean and updated electoral database.

Delhi has also been included in this phase of the SIR exercise. The Election Commission confirmed that the final electoral rolls for Delhi will be published on October 7. Officials said the revision process will strengthen voter list accuracy ahead of future elections. The Commission is also encouraging maximum public participation. Citizens are being asked to submit their Enumeration Forms on time.

Himachal, J&K and Ladakh Excluded for Now

Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh have been excluded from Phase 3 for now. The Election Commission said separate schedules will be issued later for these regions. The delay is due to harsh weather conditions and difficult terrain in high-altitude areas. Officials also cited the ongoing Census Phase 2 as a reason for deferment. These regions will be covered once conditions become suitable.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar urged voters to actively participate in the revision process. He said the aim is to ensure only eligible voters remain in the electoral rolls. The exercise also focuses on removing ineligible and duplicate entries. Earlier phases of SIR led to large-scale deletions in states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. The Commission said the ongoing exercise will strengthen transparency in India’s electoral system.
