Akshay Kumar: Dhurandhar Trend Won’t Affect Bhooth Bangla

Akshay Kumar is making a strong return to comedy by reuniting with Priyadarshan for their upcoming film Bhooth Bangla. The horror-comedy invites comparisons to Bhool Bhulaiyaa, but Akshay Kumar has clarified that both films differ in story and treatment.

Mass action films and spy thrillers currently dominate the box office, yet the veteran actor remains unfazed by these trends. The makers will release Bhooth Bangla on April 10, just three weeks after Dhurandhar 2, which is performing exceptionally well in theatres. Priyadarshan said audiences enjoy a variety of films and filmmakers should not limit themselves to one genre. He pointed out that movies like Dhurandhar and Border 2 are performing exceptionally well, but adding variety by making something different offers a refreshing change. He added that viewers who enjoy films like Dhurandhar can also appreciate such diverse content.

Akshay Kumar Addresses Timing of Bhooth Bangla Release After Dhurandhar 2

In an interaction with Press Trust of India, Akshay Kumar said he did not consciously choose to release a light-hearted film at a time when action and violent movies dominate the box office. He explained that filmmakers are creating different kinds of films and emphasized that Dhurandhar and Bhooth Bangla are completely different. He noted that Dhurandhar targets an adult audience, while Bhooth Bangla is designed for kids and families.

Akshay Kumar added that the team focused on the strength of the story rather than following industry trends. He said they never considered what was currently popular and instead decided to make the film based on its content.

Released in December 2025, Dhurandhar became a massive box-office success, earning ₹1300 crore worldwide. Its sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, hit theatres last week and has already outperformed the first part. Due to its huge pre-release buzz, several films postponed their releases to avoid clashing with the sequel.
