A massive fire at a B&B stay in Delhi Malviya Nagar claimed at least 21 lives Wednesday morning. Several others suffered injuries after thick smoke trapped guests inside the five-storey building. Initial investigations suggest a short circuit may have triggered the devastating blaze. Before emergency teams reached the location, local residents rushed forward bravely and began rescue operations. Their courage and quick actions helped several trapped victims survive the horrifying disaster.

Delhi Local Residents Turned Lifesavers During Deadly Blaze

Mohammad Afzal and his brothers became among the first residents reaching the burning building during chaos. They immediately collected mattresses from a nearby shop and spread them outside for desperate jumpers. Many trapped occupants jumped from upper floors while flames and smoke rapidly consumed the entire structure. Afzal explained that several victims survived because they landed safely upon mattresses arranged below the building. Residents also used bedsheets to lower injured people downstairs because proper rescue equipment remained completely unavailable.

Shop owner Arman Mansoori and his father Riyazuddin supported rescuers without worrying about heavy financial losses themselves. They handed over mattresses and bedsheets immediately after learning trapped guests desperately needed emergency rescue assistance. Dramatic scenes showed frightened people jumping from windows while local residents attempted protecting them from serious injuries. Their mattresses became lifesaving cushions for victims escaping deadly flames and suffocating smoke spreading throughout the hotel. The father-son duo earned praise nationwide for placing humanity above business interests during the heartbreaking tragedy.

Mattresses, CPR and Courage Helped Save Trapped Victims

Another rescuer, Waseem Raja, used his medical training to assist unconscious victims suffering dangerous smoke inhalation effects. Raja works at Max Hospital and immediately started administering CPR and emergency medical support to survivors. He explained many victims were unconscious because thick smoke filled their lungs, though flames never physically burned them. Alongside other volunteers, Raja performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation without hesitation despite difficult and unsafe rescue conditions. He also coordinated with hospital management teams, ensuring ambulances and emergency support reached the tragedy site quickly.

The heroic actions of Delhi residents could not completely prevent the heartbreaking loss of innocent human lives Wednesday. However, their bravery, humanity and quick thinking undoubtedly helped save many victims trapped inside the burning building. Fire brigade teams later controlled the blaze and continued rescue operations alongside courageous local volunteers risking personal safety. Several survivors remain hospitalized while authorities continue investigating the exact cause behind one of Delhi’s deadliest fires recently. The tragedy highlighted how ordinary citizens often become real heroes whenever disaster suddenly strikes helpless communities.
