Mumbai Indians are going through a worrying slump this season, with inconsistent performances exposing deeper flaws in the squad. They managed a win over Lucknow Super Giants, but beating an underperforming side has done little to boost confidence. Despite a disappointing Indian Premier League 2026 campaign, the franchise management is not considering a leadership change, and Hardik Pandya will continue as captain.
Pandya took over from Rohit Sharma ahead of the 2024 season after moving from Gujarat Titans, but the move has not delivered the desired turnaround. Over the past three seasons, MI have produced inconsistent results and failed to re-establish themselves as a dominant force. The five-time champions have now gone five years without lifting the trophy, reached the playoffs only twice, and finished at the bottom of the table multiple times during this period.

Pandya under scrutiny as MI stars fail to deliver
A major concern this season is the underperformance of key players who usually drive MI’s success. Jasprit Bumrah has maintained a decent economy rate but continues to struggle for wickets. Suryakumar Yadav has also dipped in form and failed to match last season’s high standards. Pandya has not delivered significant returns with either bat or ball, but his all-round role and leadership keep the management’s backing intact.
Injuries and team balance issues have further complicated matters, as Rohit Sharma’s hamstring problem forced him to miss games and disrupted the opening combination. His return restored some stability with a strong opening partnership, but Mumbai Indians still sit on shaky ground with just six points from 10 matches. The team continues to struggle for momentum, and inconsistent performances keep hurting their chances. They now face a must-win situation in the remaining fixtures to stay in contention for the playoffs.
