The conflict in the Middle East intensified after Israel announced fresh strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz said Hezbollah repeatedly violated the ceasefire and attacked Israeli areas. Following the warning, thousands of people fled Beirut’s Dahiyeh area, causing heavy traffic and panic.

At the same time, tensions between the United States and Iran also increased. The US military claimed it targeted Iran’s radar, drone, and air defence facilities after Iran allegedly shot down an American drone over international waters. In response, Iran released footage showing ballistic missile launches and warned against further attacks.

Meanwhile, overnight Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon reportedly killed six people. Hezbollah later claimed responsibility for missile and rocket attacks on Israeli military positions in northern Israel. The continued exchange of attacks raised fears of a wider regional conflict.

Israel Faces Pressure Over Lebanon Strike Decision

US President Donald Trump reportedly asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stop planned attacks on Beirut. According to reports, Trump strongly criticised the escalation during a phone call with Netanyahu. Israeli officials later criticised Netanyahu for delaying or cancelling some planned military actions after pressure from Washington.

Trump claimed Israel agreed to reduce military activity and avoid further escalation in Beirut. He also stated that discussions with Hezbollah representatives helped lower tensions temporarily. However, Netanyahu later clarified that Israel would continue striking Hezbollah targets if attacks on Israeli civilians continued.

Despite rising military tensions, diplomatic talks between the US, Iran, Israel, and Lebanon are still ongoing. Officials are trying to extend the ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, an important global oil shipping route. Experts warned that any major escalation could damage peace efforts and increase instability across the region.
