Passengers have reported several technical problems while booking train tickets through the IRCTC website ahead of the festive season. Many travelers claimed that IRCTC deducted the ticket amount but failed to generate or confirm their bookings. Some passengers also said they have not received refunds within the expected timeframe. These issues have created difficulties for people planning their journeys for Diwali and Chhath Pooja. The complaints have increased as demand for train tickets continues to rise.
Festive Rush Adds to Passengers’ Booking Woes
More than a dozen such cases reportedly emerged over the past 48 hours. Passengers said the IRCTC website stopped responding for nearly an hour while they attempted to book tickets. According to their complaints, the system became functional later, but many tickets were already sold out within minutes. Several travelers said repeated booking attempts only added to their frustration. They also raised concerns over payments being deducted without successful ticket confirmation.
Acharya Bhuvan said he attempted to book a ticket twice, but IRCTC deducted the full amount on both occasions. The website displayed a message saying that the ticket booking had failed. Bhuvan then made a third attempt and successfully secured a confirmed ticket. However, he said the money deducted during the first two attempts remained stuck in the banking system. He is now waiting for the amounts to return to his account.
Passengers Report Failed Bookings and Delayed Refunds
In another case, passenger Kanhaiya Gupta booked a journey on the Sanghamitra Express through IRCTC. His bank confirmed the payment, but the IRCTC portal did not generate a confirmed ticket. Gupta applied for a refund after the failed booking and said the deducted amount had caused financial inconvenience. Passengers have expressed concern because the festive travel period is approaching. They want the booking system and refund process to work smoothly during the rush.
Demand for trains to northern states usually rises sharply during Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath Pooja. Railways operate several special trains to meet the increased demand on routes connecting states such as Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. However, these services also attract large crowds and tickets often sell out quickly. Reports suggest that the railways may operate hundreds of additional special trains during the festive period. Amid the expected rush, passengers are seeking a reliable ticket booking system to avoid payment-related problems and booking failures.
