    Cyclone Ditwah formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal and is moving northwest near Sri Lanka. IMD reported that Ditwah is currently about 480 km south-southeast of Chennai, India. The storm is moving slowly at eight kilometers per hour, bringing heavy rain and gusty winds. Authorities warned that Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh will experience widespread rainfall. The cyclone follows the weakening of Senyar and may worsen flooding risks in coastal districts. Meteorologists expect thunderstorms and strong winds along with intense rain in affected states. IMD advised residents to stay alert and monitor updates continuously. Emergency services have been alerted to respond to flooding, waterlogging, or wind-related incidents in vulnerable areas.

    Tamil Nadu Braces for Heavy Rainfall After Cyclone

    IMD issued orange alerts for Kanyakumari, Nagapattinam, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Thoothukkudi, and Tirunelveli districts today. Yellow alerts are active tomorrow in Sivaganga, Tenkasi, and Virudhunagar districts due to moderate heavy rain. Extremely heavy rainfall is expected in isolated pockets on 28th and 29th November. Local authorities have activated emergency teams to manage waterlogging, flooding, and potential landslides. Residents are advised to avoid traveling through low-lying areas during peak rainfall. Thunderstorm and lightning warnings will remain in effect until 1 December. Officials warned fishermen not to venture into rough coastal waters due to high wind speeds. The storm is expected to weaken slowly but continue causing heavy rain across Tamil Nadu.

    Kerala will receive isolated extremely heavy rainfall on 30 November and heavy rain until 29 November. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema may experience isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall until 2 December. Telangana districts should prepare for heavy rain on 30 November and 1 December, especially in the north. South Interior Karnataka will have heavy rainfall on 29 and 30 November with thunderstorms likely. Authorities have advised residents to remain indoors and avoid traveling during peak rain hours. Emergency teams are deployed in flood-prone areas to respond quickly. Citizens are urged to follow IMD updates and precautionary instructions to stay safe. Lightning and strong winds may worsen local hazards in these states.

    Thunderstorm and Lightning Warnings Across States

    IMD warned of thunderstorms with lightning in Tamil Nadu until 1 December to minimize accidents. Kerala and Mahe will face thunderstorms from 27–29 November, affecting local communities. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam will see thunderstorms from 28 November to 1 December, possibly causing flash floods. North Interior Karnataka faces thunderstorms on 30 November, while South Interior Karnataka experiences them on 29–30 November. Authorities advised residents to avoid open fields, water bodies, and high-rise rooftops during lightning. Securing electrical appliances and staying indoors is strongly recommended. Local disaster teams have activated emergency helplines to respond quickly. Citizens must follow all warnings to reduce the risk of damage and injury during thunderstorms.

    IMD continues monitoring Cyclone Ditwah, issuing updates for Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. Residents in low-lying areas are advised to move to higher ground immediately. Authorities warned that heavy rain may trigger flash floods, landslides, and urban waterlogging. Fishermen and coastal workers are strictly advised to avoid the Bay of Bengal. Emergency response teams and relief centers are active in affected districts. Residents are recommended to stock essential items, including water, food, and medicines. Citizens must follow media updates and IMD advisories for changes in rainfall or wind speed.
