Bus Driver Ignored Warnings, Smoked Inside Before Greater Noida Fire

A deadly bus fire on the Yamuna Expressway claimed the lives of nine passengers, while several others suffered injuries. According to a passenger’s complaint, people inside the bus noticed a burning smell before the fire started. They reportedly alerted the driver and conductor and asked them to stop the vehicle. However, the driver allegedly dismissed their concerns and continued driving. Police have arrested both the driver and conductor for alleged negligence.

Greater Noida Bus Fire: Driver Allegedly Ignored Passengers’ Warnings

The incident took place on Wednesday night when Raj Kalpana Travels bus (BR32PA8647) was travelling from Kashmiri Gate in Delhi to Rath in Hamirpur. Around 30-35 passengers were reportedly travelling on the bus at the time. At around 11:30 pm, passengers noticed a burning smell near the driver’s cabin. They immediately informed the driver and conductor about the unusual smell. The bus was travelling around the 33rd kilometre of the Noida-Agra stretch.

Passenger Suneel Kumar told police that the driver allegedly did not take the warning seriously. According to his complaint, the driver said that the bus often smelled of burning and did not stop to check the problem. The complaint also alleges that the driver and conductor were smoking cigarettes and bidis inside the cabin. Shortly afterwards, flames reportedly appeared near the driver’s seat. Passengers then raised an alarm and urged the driver to stop.

Passengers Allegedly Warned Driver Before Fire

According to the complaint, the fire spread rapidly after flames appeared inside the bus. Thick smoke filled the cabin, making it difficult for passengers to find an escape route. Suneel Kumar and some other passengers managed to get out after the bus eventually stopped. However, several passengers became trapped inside as the flames quickly engulfed the vehicle. Nine people died in the tragic incident, while others sustained injuries and received medical attention.

Police have registered a case against the driver and conductor based on Suneel Kumar’s complaint. Both accused have been arrested over allegations of negligence, while authorities continue to investigate the incident. The complaint contains serious allegations about the driver’s response to the passengers’ warnings before the fire. Investigators are examining the circumstances that led to the blaze and how it spread so quickly. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
