In a recent controversy surrounding Chhath Puja celebrations, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the government of creating a “fake” Yamuna river stretch for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, while leaving the rest of the river polluted for the common public. The party claimed that authorities had artificially cleaned a portion of the Yamuna near the event site to project a clean image for the Prime Minister’s arrival, but the remaining stretch of the river remained heavily polluted and unsuitable for devotees performing rituals.

AAP Accuses Government of Creating a ‘Fake’ Clean Yamuna for PM Modi’s Visit

The AAP also highlighted the discrepancies between the government’s claims of river cleanliness and the reality faced by the devotees. As Chhath Puja devotees performed their rituals by the Yamuna, they were forced to wade through the polluted waters, raising concerns about the health risks posed by the toxic water. The party pointed out that the government’s efforts to clean the river were mainly cosmetic and lacked genuine long-term solutions.

Devotees expressed anger and frustration over the state of the river, claiming that the government had failed to take real measures to address the ongoing pollution. They emphasized that while the authorities had made a temporary effort for the VIP visit, the river’s poor condition remained unchanged for the common public. Many felt deceived by the superficial cleaning, which appeared to be more about creating a good image than solving the pollution issue.

In response to the allegations, the AAP demanded an immediate investigation into the discrepancies between the “fake” cleaning efforts and the actual pollution faced by the public. They called for greater transparency in the cleaning operations of the Yamuna, urging the government to take more serious steps to restore the river to its original condition. AAP leaders also suggested that the government focus on long-term pollution control measures rather than short-term cosmetic fixes.

Chhath Puja, a festival celebrated by millions of devotees who worship the Sun and offer prayers to the river, has always highlighted the environmental importance of rivers in India. The controversy over the Yamuna’s pollution during the festival has brought attention to the broader issue of river pollution in India. Environmental activists have joined in criticizing the lack of effective government intervention, stressing the need for sustainable solutions to restore the health of the nation’s rivers.
