Meta apologised after Facebook briefly removed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s selfie-style video before restoring it successfully yesterday. The company confirmed a technical error caused the temporary removal and quickly restored the video without further delay. Government Seeks Explanation From Meta Over Temporary Takedown

Prime Minister Modi shared the video late on July 23 to address students protesting over the NEET-UG paper leak controversy. In the nearly three-minute message, he assured students that the government considers paper leaks a serious issue and will take strict action against those responsible. He said authorities had arrested the accused and worked quickly to ensure that nearly 22 lakh NEET aspirants could take their examinations without losing an academic year.

The temporary disappearance of the video triggered sharp reactions from BJP leaders and social media users. Many questioned why Facebook removed the Prime Minister’s official post and demanded an immediate explanation. BJP leader Tajinder Bagga criticised the platform and accused it of blocking an important public message. Soon after the complaints gained attention, Meta restored the video and clarified that the removal resulted from a technical error rather than a deliberate decision.

After the video returned online, it attracted massive public attention across social media platforms. Reports said the Instagram version crossed 303 million views within 24 hours, setting a new global engagement record. Prime Minister Modi later shared another video thanking young people for their support and suggestions. Meanwhile, the government continues reviewing the incident and expects Meta’s senior executives to provide a detailed explanation regarding the temporary removal of the Prime Minister’s post.
