Vishwas Nangre Patil Appointed as Nagpur Police Commissioner

The Maharashtra Home Department has appointed renowned IPS officer Vishwas Nangre Patil as the new Commissioner of Police of Nagpur City. A 1997-batch IPS officer, he previously served as Additional Director General of Police in the Anti-Corruption Bureau. He replaces Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal, who has been transferred as ADG, ACB. Nangre Patil is widely respected for his strong leadership, administrative abilities, and people-centric policing. His appointment is expected to bring extensive experience and fresh energy to the Nagpur Police force.

Vishwas Nangre Patil Takes Charge as Nagpur CP, Brings Vast Policing Experience

Born in Kokrud village of Sangli district, Nangre Patil comes from a farming family and credits his father for encouraging him to pursue education and public service. After completing his studies at Shivaji University and Osmania University, he cleared the UPSC examination and joined the Indian Police Service in 1997. During his nearly three-decade-long career, he served in several districts across Maharashtra, including Dhule, Nanded, Latur, Kolhapur, Nashik, and Mumbai. He earned recognition for disciplined administration and effective law enforcement.

Nangre Patil gained national recognition for his courageous role during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. As Deputy Commissioner of Police in South Mumbai, he led rescue operations inside the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and helped evacuate civilians trapped during the attack. His bravery and leadership during the crisis earned him the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry in 2015. Beyond policing, he has inspired thousands through motivational speeches and his popular books. His work continues to influence UPSC aspirants and young professionals across the state.

Nagpur Police Gets New Leader as Decorated IPS Officer Vishwas Nangre Patil Appointed CP

Apart from his police career, Nangre Patil has established himself as a successful author and motivational speaker. His books, including Man Mein Hai Vishwas and Kar Har Maidan Fateh, have received widespread appreciation. He frequently addresses students and youth on leadership, discipline, and ethics. Despite his popularity, he maintains a simple lifestyle and remains closely connected to his roots. His family has played an important role in supporting his demanding professional journey.

Meanwhile, Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal leaves behind a notable legacy after serving as Nagpur Police Commissioner since February 2024. During his tenure, he launched major initiatives such as Operation Thunder against drug trafficking and Operation Shakti to combat human trafficking. He also strengthened cybercrime investigations, promoted road safety campaigns, and enhanced community policing efforts. His technology-driven approach and focus on citizen engagement improved public trust in the police force. With his transfer to the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Nagpur Police now enters a new chapter under Nangre Patil’s leadership.
