Three Free LPG Cylinders for Women-Led Families
The Tamil Nadu government will launch the ‘Annapoorani Super Six’ scheme to provide three free LPG cylinders annually. The scheme will mainly benefit women heads of families across the state. According to Chief Minister Vijay, the initiative is expected to support around 1.3 crore families. The government plans to implement the scheme from Pongal in January 2027. The move aims to reduce the financial burden of household cooking expenses.
The government has also decided to expand the ‘Vetri Payanam’ free bus travel scheme for women. Women will now be able to travel free on Express, LSS and Deluxe buses in metropolitan and urban areas. The scheme will not impose any income limit or restriction on the number of trips. Transgender persons will also receive the benefit of free travel under the scheme. The government plans to implement the expanded service from October 2.

Free Travel to Improve Inter-District Connectivity
Women will also receive free travel on ordinary-fare buses operating in mofussil and hilly regions. This decision will help passengers travel between different districts without paying bus fares. The government said the expanded scheme will improve access to public transport for women. It will also provide greater convenience to women travelling for work, education and other purposes. The initiative forms a key part of the government’s welfare measures for the state.
Chief Minister Vijay also announced that the government will drop the proposed second airport project at Parandur near Chennai. The decision came after local residents raised concerns and staged protests over the project’s environmental impact. The earlier DMK government had started the proposed project in August 2022. However, the new government has decided not to continue with the plan. Vijay said the project will not move forward under his administration.
